I don’t know what all this hubbub was about some wedding this morning. Summer isn’t getting married until tomorrow night.
I’m judging all of you.
But seriously, I wake up at 4am to watch the Australian Open for 2 weeks every January so to each their own.
Why do we, and by we, I mean the world really, not just Americans, care so much more about the English monarchy than any other monarchy?
I suppose I can understand people have a fascination with a monarchy. I don’t really give a shit, but I get it.
But why does nobody care about the Queen of Denmark, or the King of Spain, or the King of Norway, or the King of Sweden, or the Queen of the...

No. 1 on this list? Journalism. Great.
Even more useless? An unfinished journalism degree.
Art History & Art (/photography), both to which I have degrees in and both are listed as one of most useless. This could also explain why I worked at a Comic book store after I graduated.
If I could go back and do college again,...

Chicken fried steak - While often associated with Texas, this dish is so beloved in neighboring Oklahoma that it was added to the official list of state foods in 1988. The pounded beef is battered and fried like chicken and served smothered in gravy. When I was a kid, I loooooooved chicken fried…

How can I tactfully bring up with my boss that he doesn’t know how to spell the word “judgment”?

Book #10 - Keep the Change by Steve Dublanica
This was part of my 11 books for $17 score at Borders last week. I’d never heard of it but the front cover had a blurb from A.J. Jacobs and I absolutely love A.J. Jacobs. Unsurprisingly, it reminded me a lot of A.J. Jacobs, i.e. it was interesting, informative, and funny. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as The Know-it-All or The Year of...

Fuck, I forgot to register to vote.
Austin City Council elections are in like 3 weeks and the voter registration deadline was last week. Even though I’ve lived in Austin almost my entire life, I’ve never actually lived in Austin proper until this year (I was always registered at my parents’ address, which is technically in a town called Rollingwood, a little autonomous enclave like 2 miles from downtown). So I was...

At the risk of offending elizabethanne, Jim Calhoun and UConn are everything that is wrong with college basketball.
For more than a decade, Calhoun’s players, and even assistant coaches, have had numerous run-ins with the law. They have hooked kids up with agents who have paid them money while still in school.
And now there is the story that came out last week and isn’t getting...

Book #9 - The Saint by Oliver Broudy
Amazon highly recommended this to me and the reviews were all very good, but I just didn’t enjoy it all. I just found the writer as well as the principal character to both be painfully unlikeable. I’m not sure if I’m alone in finding them both unlikeable or if other people just don’t mind reading about nothing but...

In a cab to JFK checking to make sure I have everything, even though I checked about 50 times before I left my apartment. Thank god for Xanax otherwise I’d be doing this for the entire 9 hour flight to Italy.
Hey Amazon, quit just suggesting other books by the same authors I already read. I can figure out that I might like other shit by the same author on my own. I want suggestions for other books by other authors.

Book #8 - Death to the BCS by Dan Wetzel
I’d been meaning to read this for quite a while and finally got around to it. If you love college football, it’s a very interesting read, though it ultimately just makes you pissed off about the current state of affairs. If you have no interest in college football, this would obviously be an extremely uninteresting topic.
This past Sunday would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday.
She was born in a small gold-mining town in South Dakota in 1911. After graduating high school, she got her education degree and went on to teach public school for a couple of years. Then she moved to Chicago and earned her Masters in Communication from Northwestern University.
After Pearl Harbor, she joined the Army, by way...

Book #7 - The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly
I finished books 2 & 3 of the Harry Bosch series. Definitely light airplane/beach reading but since I read dense legal shit all day, that’s appreciated.
I’m only on pace to read like 26 books so I’m really going to have to pick up the pace here.
Apparently “sluts” is not a word according to Words with Friends. Fucking prudes.
Crap, I didn’t realize I’m following a couple of Texas A&M fans. Y’all are lucky I didn’t find this out sooner or I would have unfollowed your ass like I did that guy who’s a Kansas fan.
Does anyone want to go ahead and confess to being an Oklahoma or Nebraska fan while we’re at it?
